Meet Kenny Troost

Kenny first noticed that there was something wrong with his vision while walking a nature trail with his wife. His peripheral vision seemed to be shrinking, and he finally decided to get it checked out. “At first, they thought it was a detached retina, but after an ultrasound with a specialist, I was told I had cancer.

“Having a rare disease … it’s lonely,” says Kenny. “You must do your own research and find your own treatment. You are so lost, even the doctors are lost. They have different ideas and recommendations, and you don’t know who to trust. Who do you listen to? You just want to live, and you don’t want to damage your family in the process. There are always more questions than answers.”

Kenny and his wife Shanna travel to the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL every six to ten weeks for chemo. It’s not an easy road, and Kenny says it takes at least ten days after each treatment to feel fully functional again.

“My cancer is shrinking, but I’m never out of the woods. I’ll have this cancer the rest of my life. I’m doing well, and I’m encouraged, but we’re buying time until there’s a cure,” he says.

The Eye on Grace Foundation is honored to partner with Kenny, Shanna and their sons as they navigate this cancer journey. Please consider donating to help us assist patients like Kenny … your contributions make a difference.
